North Bristol NASS

Exercise Sessions Disrupted - May 2003

Latest: gym sessions resumed / hydro sessions still suspended

More:

11th.May 2003 :

With great regret, the Committee announces that North Bristol NASS weekly exercise sessions are suspended until further notice - hopefully for no longer than 3 to 4 weeks.

Incredible as it may seem, this action is necessary because of the risk to our personal safety during the evenings on the Hospital campus presented by the current high levels of burglaries and breakins going on, which are apparently perpetrated by drug addicts "armed" with weapons.

The Physiotherapy Department itself has been targeted during these breakins, and property has been stolen.

Sessions are suspended until additional security measures have been installed by the hospital authorities, which may occur within the next 3 weeks. We will keep this page updated with news, as it happens.

If you want any further information, or to ask questions, please feel free to email us at bristolnass@blueyonder.co.uk email address.

  Regretfully,
  The Committee

21st.May 2003 :

With immediate effect the gym sessions have restarted - we will be running activities, as before, from 7.00pm until 8.00pm.

As a permanent security "improvement" the doors leading from the corridor into the reception area will be locked at all times; they will be opened a short while before 7.00pm and then re-locked. For anyone arriving late we will be making regular visits to allow late arrivals in. If the door is locked when you arrive please wait by the doors so that you can be seen through the glass rather than us having to enter into the main corridor each time. We have offered money towards the reinstatement of the doorbell system which has not been operational for several years (hopefully it is not just that they have not changed the battery ?)

With regard to the hydro sessions these are at present still on hold, (due to pool maintenance issues - not security), but Rachel indicated this evening that we should have access again within the next few weeks - I will send an update as soon as it becomes known. When the sessions return we will be able to return to the normal timings of the sessions e.g. 7.30 - 8.00 and 8.00 - 8.30 with everyone having to be out of the dept by 8.45pm at the very latest as Hospital Security will be enforcing a lock up. We have been advised that if we flout this new ruling we will be denied any access to the department facilities - no ifs or buts.

Don't forget that the AGM is taking place on the 4th June. We are trying to arrange the use of the Winford lecture theatre just off the main corridor - whichever location, we will place notices at the main entrance.

If you have any questions whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact me email address.

  Cheers

  Phil, Branch Secretary
